Infrastructure 2025 - Ongoing

An old family Windows 11 PC, sitting unused in a corner, turned into an Ubuntu server and administered from the command line. It runs services in containers, with Uptime Kuma watching their status and Dozzle reading their logs, and remote access goes through Tailscale, which keeps my devices on a private network without opening a single port to the internet. Every night Restic backs the server up to a dedicated disk, Docker volumes included, and the databases are dumped separately first: copied hot, they wouldn't restore. Once a month a second job re-reads the archive to make sure nothing has gone corrupt without anyone noticing. A UPS keeps it up when the power goes out and, if it doesn't come back within ten minutes, shuts it down cleanly instead of letting it die mid-write.

Personal cloud 2025 - Ongoing

Immich automatically backs up the photos from my phone and Nextcloud holds my files, both running in containers on the server at home. They're the two things people usually pay a monthly subscription for, and that put your data on someone else's disk.

Network filtering 2025 - Ongoing

AdGuard runs on the server and blocks ads and trackers at the DNS level for every connected device, before they ever reach the browser: roughly one request in five doesn't get through. Tailscale carries the filter with me: on mobile data my phone browses just as clean as it does at home. It's the same principle I apply to the websites I build: what shouldn't fire, doesn't.

Telegram control bot 2025 - Ongoing

Written by me, with a fixed set of commands and no room to improvise: container status, RAM, machine temperature, and a MAC address scan for devices that show up on the network and I don't recognize.

Hermes 2025 - Ongoing

An open source assistant I took from GitHub, moved onto my server and wired up to the OpenAI APIs with GPT-5 mini. Every day it sends me the main news on tech, AI and finance, and it lets me reach the server even when I'm not home. Unlike the control bot, there are no fixed commands here: you have a conversation.
